Getting Started...

Read the instructional pamphlet that you received in class.
  • Click on the tab for your topic that is located under "All Pages" on the right side of this screen.
  • You may add content to your page using the Toolbar and Tools on the top of the page.
  • To change your wiki's colors or theme, click on Manage Wiki and Look and Feel.
  • Remember that, although you can look at you classmates' pages at any time, you are only able to make changes to your own page.

Need Help?

  • Click on the "dashboard" logo (little grey face) in the very top right hand corner of the screen to open a toolbar
  • Click on the help tab to learn more about how to use your wiki.

Optics Wiki Assignment Requirements


PURPOSE:
  • The Wiki’s will serve as a useful tool for presenting information in a variety of ways
  • Remember: This Wiki will be developed by students, and it is for students.
  • We live in a technological era! Let’s use the tools and resources available at our fingertips.

GETTING STARTED:
  • Refer to the attached tutorial on how to get started on the Wiki
IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • The wiki space is open for all students in the class. You are only to modify your own page ~ please respect the other pages that belong to your fellow classmates. All changes made to the Wiki are recorded by date and by user and can be accessed by the teacher.
  • Each Wiki will be locked exactly at 3:00 pm on the deadline.

WIKISPACE CRITERIA:

Content

  • Key concepts, terms and processes.
  • Use as many appropriate properties of light as possible to accurately explain your topic
  • Include detailed and illustrative diagram(s) including light rays and labels
  • Clearly explain how your topic relates to society, and how it has improved human life or our understanding of nature
  • Diagrams, videos, PowerPoints, online tutorials and interactive animations.
  • Glossary

Communication/Presentation

  • A “Table of Contents” that hyperlinks to key topics.
  • All information must be on the same page – do not hyperlink to new pages.
  • Create a glossary at the end of your page that includes terminology relevant to optics and your topic.
  • A variety of colours, photos, diagrams and videos should be used to grasp the readers attention (e.g., it was interesting and interactive).
  • Proper spelling, grammar and sentence structure.
  • Scientific terminology is used properly, and where appropriate.
  • The content is easy to read, and is simplified for retention purposes (e.g., your class notes are not simply typed out).
  • In-text notations and a corresponding numerical works cited.

  • Interactive activities are provided (i.e. power point tutorial, practice quizzes etc..)
